ART EDUCATION

87120C27-5ACE-4FA5-9C65-63061F2ED7E7.hei

Over the past two years, I have had the pleasure to teach visual arts to a variety of learners throughout Clarke, Oconee, and Oglethorpe County.

Each teaching opportunity has helped shape my art education practice. Through these experiences, I have learned I love teaching in formal and non formal education settings.

 NORTH OCONEE HIGH SCHOOL

During my first placement of student teaching, I worked with the high school students of North Oconee High School. While there, I worked with Art 1, Art 2, Art 3 and AP Art. We focused on the elements of art, clay, portrait work as well as stenciling and painting. The AP students produced paintings based on the four wings of OCHS--Fine Arts, Science, Math and Language.

OGLETHORPE COUNTY PRIMARY SCHOOL

During my second placement of student teaching, I worked with the students of Oglethorpe County Primary School. I worked with every K-2 class set on a five day rotation of six classes a day. While there, we focused on environmental art, one point perspective, Native American art as well as a few seasonal items. I had the privilege of creating two paintings with the help of 2nd grade and special education students for the counselor's office.

GEORGIA MUSUEM OF ART

From December 2019 to March 2020 I had the opportunity to work for the Georgia Museum of Art (GMoA) as an Outreach Educator. As an educator I wrote a visual arts lesson which was implemented in all 5th grade visual art classes in Athens-Clarke County. The art lesson was a based on the exhibition Mary Lee Bendolph, Quilted Memories which was on display at GMoA from October to December 0f 2019. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 my time as an educator was cut short by six-weeks.

CLARKE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL

During Spring 2020 semester I had the opportunity to work with the Sculpture One students of Clarke Central High School (CCHS) as part of a pre-service experience opportunity with fellow graduate and undergraduate students. During our time at CCHS we challenged students to redefine their understanding and relationship to space. The lesson we taught came from a place of experimentation. Lessons non-traditional art making, class collaboration, and eventually due to COVID-19 digital exploration.
